Here is a taste of what I have been diggin' lately round the interweb:
Simple Mom is helping me keep my focus for the new year...less is more!
Everyday Simplicity is focusing on the abundance in life instead of wanting more.
Just reading Zen Habits makes me feel more productive!

But is this easier said than done?
I think so. The author, Dr. Augusto Cury, outlines 12 steps (every good self-help book has 12 of them, right?) to overcome the issues in your life. Taking control on your own life sounds awesome:
1. Be the author of your own story.
2. Direct your thoughts.
3. Manage your emotions.
4. Protect your memory.
5. Learn to listen and dialogue.
6. Learn the art of self-dialogue.
7. Contemplate beauty.
8. Unleash creativity.
9. Be restored in your sleep.
10. Live an enterprising lifestyle.
11. Think existentially.
12. Turn life into a celebration.

As good as Dr. Cury is at stirring up positive thinking and using endless amounts of pure poetry, he never quite tells us how to get from point A to point B. Sure, it would be great if we could all think positively and never give up on life. In my opinion this book was filled with an excess of self-help book jargon. And I have read a lot of self-help books! This book was filled with more fluff than helpful information. My advice? Read the Bible...it is the ultimate self-help book.

We all know that opening up the refrigerator and freezer doors a lot uses up more energy and raises the utility bill. Of course grownups know better than that to stand with the door gaping wide open, staring at all the goodies inside, but what about kiddos (especially toddlers and preschoolers?) To be sure your little ones aren't running up that bill, childproof your fridge with one of those safety locks.
