It's Frugal Friday!
This tip I am about to share makes my hubby think I am nutty as a fruitcake but I don't care--it saves.
Don't toss the crumbles at the bottom of those bags! Save them up and use them up, I say. Here is what I save up for later use:
- Crushed tortilla chips for topping Mexican-inspired soups, stews, and chilis
- Broken pretzel pieces for Rachel Ray's pretzel crusted chicken (a new family fave)
- Busted up graham crackers for homemade pie and cheesecake crusts
- Captain Crunch, corn flakes, and other cereal crumbs for yummy chicken recipes
Wanna check out some other Frugal Friday tips?

How do you store them? Do you keep them in the freezer?
My husband already thinks I'm nuts so I don't have to worry about that.
Niki, Great ideas! I do much of the same. I'm forever rescuing the crumbly bag from someone's hands before it gets to the trash can! My family also thinks I'm nuts...but they sure do appreciate it when I put those crumbs to good use!
You could also use some of those crunchy toppings on vegetable casseroles or mac & cheese! Really, what's homemade mac & cheese without crushed up butter crackers on top, LOL?
Have you ever added vinegar and oil to the last dregs of mustard to make a vinaigrette? (Right in the bottle--just shake it up.)
Those are great ideas! We used the crumbs of my pita chips the other night to toss into a salad and it was delicious! And I love corn flake chicken, it's delicious!
rachel @ the simple me
Great ideas!!!
@ Buffie,
I store them in ziploc bags in the cabinet, just like I would croutons or other "Real" salad toppings.
:)
Packaged foods are a rarity here, so no one wants to waste a crumb. We eat the crumbs immediately! LOL.
Thanks for inviting me to your blog.

Great ideas - I hadn't thought about using them as breading - its a duh moment for me! Awhile back I wrote this post:

about what I do with crunchies.
I save sesame seeds from hamburger bun packs but I hadn't thought of the others you mentioned. Thanks!
Sesame seeds, eh? Now THAT is one I never thought of!
:)
